At 46 years old, João personifies the intersection between human compassion and technological innovation, bringing with him a rich tapestry of experiences that inform WAVCD's mission.

João began his career as a lawyer, dedicating 15 years to professional practice, where he developed not only a keen sense of justice, but also the ability to advocate for those without a voice. His passion for law was complemented by a deep interest in human well-being, which led him to study nursing at the prestigious Escola Superior de Enfermagem de Coimbra.

His journey took him to the UK, where he worked as a dementia care assistant for a year. This experience was transformative, giving João an intimate insight into the challenges faced by those who struggle to express themselves due to health conditions. It was here that the seed for WAVCD was planted, at the intersection of empathy and the need for innovation.

Currently, João is dedicated to researching artificial intelligence and statistical methods, focusing on Bayesian networks applied to healthcare.
