In Lisbon, in Bairro Alto, there is a small bar with walls covered with black and white tiles.
Since 1998 customers have been writing and drawing on the tiles, with the authorization of the owners, who are the brothers Sílvio and Paulinho.
A black pen for the white tiles and a white pen for the black tiles.
The Lisbona Bar now has all 2000 tiles decorated by its customers, and need to clean some because the customers continue to ask for pens to decorate the tiles.
For this reason, Sílvio and Paulinho have gathered a team to publish a book where 500 images of the tiles will be reproduced, before they wille cleaned for reuse.
We want to show the environment, created in Lisbona Bar.
The Book is very simple: 500 photographs of the 500 tiles in 500 pages (250 sheets). It also contains a brief introduction about the foundation of the bar and the beginning of the decoration of the tiles.
We are asking for financial support from those who are enthusiastic about this project, as we are. In order to print this book, an investment of € 2,000.00 is needed.
About the author
I'm Maria Teresa Ferreira, danish with a portugese father.
I am a student of Danish for Foreigners at the University of Copenhagen.
In 1999, I took a course, Portuguese for Foreigners, at the Faculty of Letters, in Lisbon.
At that time I looked for a tavern I met on a vacation in the 80's, where clients expressed themselves singing fado or reciting poems.
It was a unique and beautiful experience, to observe ordinary people who expressed so much inner life into something real!
I did not find this tavern but I found Lisbona Bar. Here I also observed ordinary people expressing their inner life in a creative way. In Lisbona Bar, the expression is not through fado or the declamation of poems ... Everyone participates and creates the atmosphere of the Lisbona Bar, leaving its mark and creativity in the tiles that cover its walls. The result is unique, so I think it's natural to be evoked in a book. As I like to get involved in exciting and inspiring tasks, I asked the owners for permission to develop and promote this project.
The team:
Paulinho Santos: Manager of the bar and coordinator of the book. One of the two brothers who own the bar.
Armando Modesto: Responsible for layout. He is a graphic designer, owner of Arte Visual. He has 30 years professional experience of designing for commercial and public organizations.
Teresa Aguiar: Photographer. A person with creative aptitudes, hands always tucked into some plastic creation and head in spiritual and philosophical thoughts.
Budget and due dates
Each book will cost 13 euros
We will print 250 books. The total is 3250 euros.
The cost of printing / typography is 1,971.60 euros, 6% VAT included. There is a reduced fee for cultural articles. The costs are at 1,201.70 euros
Then we subtract the value of VAT, 6%, we are now with an added value of 1,201.70 euros
We have expenses of 200 euros for prizes and vouchers, 1,001,70 euros.
We divide this value with 4, which will give 250 euros for each person who works on the project.
Deadline for funding: November 20
Delivery in typography: December 5
Release party: Friday, December 22

Finally -finally -finally: The book is ready, it's here, it's a reality, it actually exists!!!
You who have allready bougt one, can expect to recieve it any moment now.
You who have contributed with a smaller amount, can pay the difference between you, contribution and the price of the book. The price is 15 euro.
We are really gratefull for all the contributions that we have recieved during the crowdfunding, the big ones as well as the small ones. Altogether they made it possible for us to realise this projekt. The names of all of the contributers are listed in the book. Thanks a lot!
