Help us create a kindergarten in Principe Island

Principezinhos Project: a kindergarten to develop social and emotional skills, creation of environmental and nutritional awareness; with the ultimate goal of improving school success.

The Principezinhos Project through the stimulation of social and emotional skills of children between 3 and 6 years old, will complement the kindergarten curriculum of Principe Island, with the kindergarten teacher as the discovery facilitator. With the main objective of empowering children with the necessary skills to achieve school success. And let's do it with this motto: learn by doing, learn in contact with nature. We will offer activities such as mud shelter building, natural element artwork creation, school gardens creation, and more.

What we will do if we can achieve the ultimate goal of this campaign:

• Fund the education of 6 children during one school year;
• Fund the daily nutritious snack to 10 children for one school year.

Implementation plan

The 1st Phase of the Principezinhos Project comprises:

• Implementation of the tailor-made pedagogical plan to develop the 3 main pillars of the project: Social and Emotional Skills Development, Environmental Awareness and Nutrition Awareness
• Creation of a kindergarten room organized by didactic zones, used according to children's interests;
• Creation of a school garden;
• Definition of a school menu adapted to the nutritional needs of children;
• Training of local human resources in the three areas: Social and Emotional Skills Development, Environmental Awareness and Nutritional Awareness.

OBJECTIVES YEAR 1 (September 2020):

Children

- Improved School Success
- 20 children approx.

Early childhood educators

- Employability of 2 local human resources
- Training of 4 local human resources

About the author

In 2010, driven by the desire to create value, a group of friends flew to the Principe island in Sao Tome and Principe. There they discovered a different reality, where happiness and smiles reigned, but where there were no dreams of a different future, or of an alternative to existing reality.

Books to read, teachers to teach, libraries to study, training in the most diverse areas. At Principe, there was and still much to do for education. Sonha, Faz e Acontece wants to actively participate in this urgent change.

To educate is to take care of the future! Thus, in April 2012, Sonha, Faz e Acontece , a voluntary and social entrepreneurship association, was born. Its "dream" is to create a level playing field for PALOP youth to succeed and become agents of change in their communities.

We have been present on the ground for 7 years with activities of great impact such as the Xináa Fogáá Summer Camp which covers over 100 children; the Entrepreneurship Competition that supports and finances local businesses; and the rehabilitation of school infrastructures. Now is the time to take our dream further and implement Sonha, Faz e Acontece first long-term project with the Principezinhos Project.

Budget and due dates

Budget for year 1:

• 20 CHILDREN EDUCATION (Teachers, infrastructure, school supplies) 4.520 €
• FOOD (Daily snack for 20 children) 2,700 €
• TRAINING 4 EDUCATORS (Volunteer expenses: accommodation, food, travel and health insurance) 7.300 €
