Our teachers residence needs you

Teachers displaced from Bissau and who teach in Aldeia de Ampintcha, in Carache, need an equipped residence so that they feel motivated to continue teaching children.

Teachers displaced from Bissau and who teach in Aldeia de Ampintcha, in Carache, need an equipped residence so that they feel motivated to continue teaching children.

The Ampintcha Village School in Carache was built by UNICEF and is supported with funds from Kéré Ecolodge through its NGO, Escama. And although the school has good teaching conditions for the children, the teachers had to share a house with people from the village who kindly gave them a room in their houses.

And it was with the aim of improving the living conditions of the teachers, all of whom came from Bissau, that Ilha de Kéré, through the ESCama foundation, asked for funding to build a residence for its 4 teachers with 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, and a shower. The Hurtigruten Foundation financed the project and today the work is completed, but the space is empty of materials necessary for the well-being of teachers.

And for this we would need your help in purchasing some materials such as beds (4), closets (3), desks (3), chairs (3), mosquito nets, sheets, towels and rugs. The amount raised is used entirely to equip 3 bedrooms for 4 people and 1 bathroom.

Equipping the teachers' residence is very important because it will encourage teachers to stay on the island of Carache for as many years as possible.

About the author

The Ecolodge de Kéré is a family lodge for Ecotourism, Sport Fishing and a peaceful place to connect with nature. We are on the 1-hectare islet of Kéré, 700 meters north of the Bijagós Archipelago, in Guinea Bissau.

Through the ecolodge's financial activity, we intend to contribute concretely to development in the areas of health and education, which is why we founded the NGO Escama, with the aim of supporting the communities on the islands of Carache and Caravela. Currently responsible for guaranteeing teachers' salaries and food in two schools and a kindergarten, as well as ensuring the transport of urgent diseases from the islands to the hospital in Bissau and supporting the health center with medicines and cleaning. We also promote volunteering activities in schools and health centers, as part of our ecotourism activities.
