This is a project to raise part of the total funds needed to enable the  Banda da Sociedade Musical e Recreativa Obidense (SMRO) and the Orquestra Ligeira de Óbidos to attend the festival "Música in Festa 2014" from 21st July to 29th July in Staffolo Italy.

We are trying to raise through Crowdfunding up to €4000 of the €16000 needed to enable the 55 members to travel to the festival.

For many of our members (mostly young people) it is a unique opportunity through music to represent Portugal abroad and to travel through Europe.

We are doing everything we can for this to happen.

Through a lot of hard work we have already raised €6000 for the trip and we have scheduled extra activities to be able to increase this amount.

But without your help this dream will be more difficult to achieve.

It is an international festival of musical Bands that occurs annually in Staffolo - Italy. It is one of the best festivals for our type of music and it is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Over the last 20 years bands from countries such as Belgium, Russia, Spain, France, Poland, Germany, Macedonia and the USA have all attended. To celebrate its 20 year anniversary the organisers of the festival decided to invite the 5 best groups that have been part of the festival over the last 20 years:

About the author

The SMRO is a centuries old Association, the oldest in the municipality of Obidos. We are a self funded group dedicated to the development of its members personally and socially through the teaching and playing of music. In previous years we were also involved in the theatre but today the SMRO is rooted in  purely musical projects.

It is made up of 4 parts : Music School, Youth Orchestra, Light Orchestra and Wind Band.

Music School :- with sustained growth over the last few years the school enables young and old alike to learn music and perform with the groups, all at a very affordable cost.

We have a dedicated group of teachers with relevant musical/educational academic training. The music school has classes in, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium, trumpet and percussion.

Youth Orchestra:- Is a group of young people who have the opportunity to play music together, before moving onto the Wind Band and Light Orchestra.

Light Orchestra:- Is a Musical group that offers its performers the experience of playing repertoire from areas as diverse as Jazz,  swing, and pop and also integrates both electric and acoustic elements. This group has tremendous versatility  and over the past few years had exponential  recognition both nationally and internationally for the quality of its work.

Wind Band:- Is the main group of the SMRO, it is a large group where tradition and new ideas merge accordingly with both young and older players.
