Recording of the 3rd cd

Eight years after the recording of our last CD, it is time to show the work developed, in the recent years, by this Philharmonic and leave a record for the posterity of the musical moment of our association.

Philharmonics are important institutions in the Portuguese culture and in the communities where they live. They develop their activity around the teaching and dissemination of music. We are an association with 146 years and with a history that we are honored and proud of. Our history is recorded by the usual forms and means, but the result of our work can only be registered for posterity, by the technologies available for this purpose (Video / CD etc). Therefore, our band, Filarmónica Ressurreição de Mira, recorded in 2004 his first CD, "In ... cantos de Mira" with Maestro Francisco Pereira and in 2008 a second CD, with the title "Show time" under the management of Professor Jorge Paulo Margaça.

We believe that our Philharmonic is currently showing a good quality musical level. For this reason, the direction altogether with its Conductor has decided to carry out the recording of a third CD, which we promise will be of excellent quality and with a modern and demanding repertoire, matching our current performance.

Being a non-profit institution, like the vast majority of associations, we are financially resilient and survivors, being forced to rigorous and ingenious management so that we can pursue our main goal... TEACHING MUSIC at an affordable cost to all.

So, we have no choice but to venture on this project and the goodwill of all our partners, friends, supporters and all music lovers to raise the funds needed to record our third CD.

About the author

The course of the Band of Mira (ou Banda de Mira) is made up of ups and downs, and without absolute certainties of the date of its foundation. In fact, on 1870 there were already two bands in Mira that disputed over who played better, Banda Velha and Banda Nova de Mira. This fact leads us to suppose that there were decades before the creation of the first band.

Like other bands, it went through various difficulties, always having some stubborn friends who have carried forward his beloved philharmonic to this day.

Thanks to the will and determination of all, in 1981, it was possible to make the first recording on magnetic tape, still existent (although a little distorted). This recording travels all corners of the world and reinforces the link between our emigrants with their homeland. In 2004, the phillarmonic records its first CD with the title "In... Cantos de Mira" with the conductor Francisco Pereira and, in 2008, the secondc CD with the title "Show Time" with conductor Jorge Paulo Margaça.

Throughout almost a century and a half of existence, this philharmonic has not only been the pride of the people living in the band’s hometown, but also participated in the most diverse cultural and musical events in Spain and France.

Presently, the main focus of Filarmónica Ressurreição de Mira is to form musicians, having a music school with 65 students with ages comprising the 3 and 16 years and a group of 20 teachers, thus guaranteeing a promising future. Filarmónica Ressurreição de Mira is a group that is constantly developing and growing, with novelties in the type of repertoire and with didactic and more demanding perspectives in the teaching of music. It already has more than half of its students and musicians attending official renowned education centres, as the music schools of Aveiro / Coimbra, music academy of Cantanhede, Bairrada arts school, Jobra, University of Aveiro, etc. The music school of the philharmonic is thus the precursor training for its musicians and the pedagogical direction is in charge of Joana Gaspar since 2008.

Over the last years, Filarmónica de Mira has been organizing various courses, conferences, workshops and masterclasses. On the one hand, with the perspective of raising the level of its musicians. On the other hand, to develop and promote the work of the philharmonic and to affirm itself on the national scene, pioneering ambitious projects like the organization of events with the best Portuguese and foreign pedagogues, musicians and conductors. The I and II Band Stage with the guidance of the Spanish conductor Jose Ignácio Petit and the 1st Course of Conductin oriented by Professor António Saiote were three relevant events that stand out.

In addition to the philharmonic main group, Children's Choir, Children's Orchestra and also the Sacred Music Group, which rejoices the celebrations with songs that reflect the youth of their performers and their teachers, are another important groups of the band.

Since October 2015, the Artistic Direction has been trusted to the conductor Ricardo Gonçalves.
