“LIVING HERE ROCKS” is a project by Grupo de Cantares de Fornos de Algodres (a folk singing group) and Confraria da Urtiga (nettle’s brotherhood) dedicated to discover, collect and promote the cultural heritage from Fornos de Algodres.

This folk singing group was, at its beginning known as Grupo Etnográfico da Casa do Pessoal da Câmara Municipal de Fornos de Algodres whose members were exclusively town hall’s staff. Their aim was to use music as a means to connect people to their roots.

“Sei de um saco de cantigas” (I know of a bag of songs) was the name given to their first album, released in 2012.

Today, Grupo de Cantares de Fornos de Algodres has 20 singers/musicians who share their love for Portuguese music, specially folk songs connected to their roots, which in Fornos de Algodres – the Nettle Capital – means they naturally sting!

For almost a year, this group visited each one of the villages and hamlets searching for local folk songs and managed to gather 16 old themes that have become a kind of an anthem of each of these places.  All these anthems were then published in the second album from the group named “Património Cantado” (Sung Heritage).

Because there is the wish to publish a new CD, which is already recorded, the Grupo de Cantares is organizing a fundraising campaign to attain €2.500 (until December 31st). This money it also aimed to finance merchandising made of pure nettle fiber, to offer to those who are willing to support and sponsor the group.

If you donate 5€ you will get the CD “Património Cantado" (shipping expenses included in Portugal);

If you donate 10€ or more you will be offered the same plus a ramie key ring with a nettle shape.

Heritage is value! "Sung Heritage" is precious!
