The goal of Bô Energia is to combat the problems inherent in the excessive use of coal in STP, using as alternative briquettes made of sawdust.
Bô Energia 2017 is a continuation project, which seeks the production, commercialization and use of briquettes composed of sawdust waste.
Last year a team of three changemakers started Bô Energia with the main goal of testing the viability of the production of sawdust briquettes, as an alternative to the use of coal and firewood, and to sensitize and empower the local population for the use economic and energy performance of renewable energy.

The success of this project was almost immediate, and has made a major impact on the Neves community. The production of sawdust briquettes proved feasible, and continues to operate in the carpentry where it was implemented.
This edition intends to extend the production and commercialization of briquettes to the remaining carpentries of Neves, continuing to sensitize the community and training the carpenters and locksmiths, so that they can commercialize the briquettes and have profit with the residual sawing of the carpenters.
In order to achieve these objectives, it will be necessary to:
- Build and replicate a new, more efficient press;
- Carry out awareness actions for the whole population of Sao Tome;
- Build a commercialization manual;
- Carry out commercial training actions aimed at carpenters and locksmiths;
- Assist and monitor briquette production processes.
Alone we are faster, but together we go further. With your support, the success and sustainability of the project will be achieved, contributing to a greener future in São Tomé.
About the author
The Bô Energia project came from the SPIRIT training promoted by WACT.
WACT - We Are Changing Together - is a lay, apolitical, nongovernmental, nonprofit organization that works for Development through education. It seeks to change the world through people and believes in the potential of each to be an agent of change in their daily contexts and in the world.
Bô Energia'17 team is composed by four changemakers, trained in several areas that complement each other, and with a common motto: "act for change":
- Cláudia Cruz has a degree in Psychology and has been a student for many years. His passion for the human area will be very useful to build an adequate awareness-raising plan to São Tome population.
- Inês Pascoal is trained in the field of biology, and Martim Duarte is an aspirant in the same area. Their passion for nature will be very useful for making thoughtful decisions and creating an adequate awareness plan.
- Pedro Costa is trained in the area of Management. His passion for the strategy area will be very useful for the training of carpenters and locksmiths, which will facilitate the commercialization of briquettes in São Tomé.

Budget and due dates
To make this project possible, it is necessary to raise the mentioned amount, in order to cover the following costs:
- Support in changemakers' travel;
- Material for the construction of presses and dryers;
- Writing materials for training and awareness raising
- Internal travels (Travels for meetings with partners);
- Telecommunications on the ground.
Bô Energia is a 12-week project that has been in the field since July 17, 2017.
