This project aims to harness the seeds of the plant Ricinus communis, a weed in certain places of the islands, which can produce the famous "Castor Oil", widely used by the comestic industry and also as medicine. The strategy is to encourage poorer families to catch the seeds (like today they harvest blackberries) and deliver them to a center where they will be treated and the oil extracted, bottled up and then marketed locally as hair lotion.
The money is needed to buy na oil extractor machine, glass bottles and this summer’s availability of seeds. The product will be sold in as na hair treatment in the local markets of the islnads and simultaneously will be sold over the internet, on E-Bay and the Facebook page. Castor oil can also be turned into soap, and this is the 2nd phase of the project.
The uses of castor oil are numerous and widely disseminated on the Internet. There are many brands of products for sale worldwide. The oil is considered by US Food and Administration as "safe and effective" even for internal use.
