The world of Marciana (Martian Girl) in a Double exhibition

Double exhibition at the Figueira da Foz Center for Performing Arts (CAE).

My name is Isa Silva, better known by 'Marciana (Martian Girl)', and last October I was invited to do a double exhibition at the Figueira da Foz Center for Performing Arts (CAE). 

In a room, paintings with Square Faces and simultaneously in another room, photography, with my inclined photos and others.

Square Faces is a painting project in which colored faces are always created in a square format. Beyond the visible use of very strong colors enhanced with the stylized and exaggerated lines of the facial features, the latter always delineated by black color. On display there will be imaginary faces, faces of known figures and a completely new series in addition to some examples of custom Square Faces, ie, screens that depict real faces through the visualization of photos.

In photography, it's often heard that "This picture is askew." These aren't normal photographs, I admit it. But that's how I like to see the world, to express myself.

To me, photography has to be an expression of emotion, storytelling, and with a different look, freed from the shackles of rules that we are early on obliged to learn when we start shooting.

The aesthetics are fundamental in the final set but also the unique look.

I seek perspectives, details, lines of unusual orientation.

Many now recognize a photo of mine precisely for these reasons.

I shoot with a reflex camera and a cell phone and photos taken by these two means will be displayed in the exhibition.

Painting and photography are two areas of my creative universe which also includes illustration, writing and graphic design.

About the author

Isa Silva was born in the summer of 1966 and since then her imagination made her company when designing and creating stories. She attended the António Arroio School of Arts where her love for writing was born. In her second life (as she likes to point out ) she rediscovered photography, drawing, painting and strengthened her relationship with writing. She combines these passions to work in graphic design.

She goes by 'Marciana' and she is very curious about the whys of life.

An endless dreamer who one day discovered the pleasure of telling stories and emotions through camera, drawings and words.

She has participated in several group exhibitions.

This is her first major solo exhibition.
