For the first time in the history of portuguese waterpolo the same club will participate in the European Competitions, with both men and women teams. This campaign aims to raise funds to allow Fluvial, Portugal’s male and female champion, to measure strenghts against the best european teams, on Octber and December 2016, at Porto.
In the previous season, the Fluvial women's and men's senior teams were National Water Polo Champions. The achievement of such titles assured them access to the European competitions.
Since 2002 Fluvial men's team wasn't involved in any international competitions. After a 14-year interregnum, they are back to the European stages and will play at home (in Porto) against BPM Sport Management Verona (Italy), Enka Sport Club (Turkey) and Sintez Kazan (Russia), from Sep. 30 to Oct 02.
The women's team will repeat their international participation for the second consecutive year. This tournament will be performed from the 2nd to the 4th day of December, in Porto, against Ugra Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia), Rari Nantes RN BOGLIASCO (Italy), Widex GZC Donk Gouda (Netherlands) and ZVL Bam LEIDEN (Netherlands).
At Fluvial, players are non-professional and have to reconcile practices with employment and studies. Even with the players monthly fees, Fluvial does not have the necessary resources to help the team, so the players decided to resort to crowdfunding to help spread the word and to fulfill their dream to go up and face the best.
