Diversity Party brings together, in Lisbon's public space, the several knowledges, flavours, and sounds of the world -- with dignity, respect, and equality.
Portugal is a multicultural country and nowadays this is an undeniable fact. But Portugal is still not an intercultural country because the affirmation of cultural diversity is still prey to of xenophobia and racism and there is little or no interaction between the various cultures.
The Diversity Party (coming to its 8th edition) seeks to break with this reality and to bring together, in the Lisboa's public space, the various knowledges, tastes, and sounds of the world -- with dignity, respect, and equality.
The Diversity Party seeks to stimulate us all to know other knowledges of the world, taste the other flavors of the world, know and feel the other sounds of the world. More than celebrating diversity, what we propose with the Diversity Party is to contribute to intercultural dialogue in order to, in addition to recognizing and accepting difference, experience it and practice it with respect.
More than celebrating diversity we want to live it.
...and we will do so at Arco do Cego, in Lisbon, on the 6th and 7th of June.
About the author
SOS Racism has existed since 1990 and proposes a more just, egalitarian and multicultural society where all domestic and foreign people, regardless of skin tone, ethnicity or creed, enjoy the same rights as citizens. We formed a non-profit association, and have been awarded the status of public utility in 1996.
We focus on the following areas:
In the field of education we participate in educational projects concerning the problems of racism and xenophobia, promoting interculturalism, namely through training, workshops, and school debates, with both students and teachers.
Support for victims of racism has acquired, over the years, great importance in the association, given the need expressed by immigrant communities and ethnic minorities that come to us. Anyone can contact us by telephone, or by letter or email asking for information, or informing us, for example, of racist situations that they are aware of.
We take public stands on all racist acts of which we are aware and propose concrete measures to fight racism and towards the socio-economic inclusion of ethnic minorities in Portugal.
Participation in debates, conferences, information campaigns is also one of the forms of action we favor in building the society we wish for.
