Casa Alecrim - Waldorf Pedagogy and Studies Association is moving in September 2014 to a new "Home". This is a dream come true for us as it gives us space to grow. Our new place will enable us to accommodate more children in our Nursery School and within a year, open up a Primary School.
This new property not only has a bigger house but it also has surrounding land, which will grant the children contact with Mother Nature, as well as the opportunity to have new activities and experiences.
We are about to start remodelling jobs on site, and although we have help from the parents and teachers, as well as a small fund that we have been able to accrue since the start of our project, this is still not enough to cover all costs, and hence we are asking for funding.
This fund will be go towards the construction of a much-needed kitchen in our new "Home".
About the author
Casa Alecrim - Waldorf Pedagogy and Studies Association was born out of a vision on education held in common by a group of parents and teachers alike and the desire of all to create an educational and cultural project of their own, focussing not only on life and change, but also actively responding to the challenges of the future.
Since November 2011 that Casa Alecrim, based in Leiria, has been developing this pilot project with activities that fall within the Waldorf Pedagogy for children between the ages of 2 and 6.
Given the inherent philosophy of this pedagogy, this project has wider scope that is not a mere place limited to children alone. Our door is open to the community and our intention is to create gatherings where we can get together and exchange knowledge and experiences with all those that support our proposals.
We hold workshops, conferences and debates on different themes related to education, nutrition, health, environment and many other themes that are consistent with the scope of our project.
Executive organs of the Association include 2 Waldorf teachers and 4 parents, whose names are: Sofia Monteiro, Mónica Fernandes, Lina Lourenço, João Martins Pereira, Ana Paula Antunes, Mário Teixeira.
Our main motivation is to give a greater number of children the opportunity to grow in a safe environment, with rhythm and with constant contact with nature.
