1st Camp of Natural History in Serra da Estrela (Week in Science at Serra da Estrela)

Objectives

• Promoting knowledge of the Serra da Estrela and natural heritage;
• Promote the development of field studies in the field of natural history, the Serra da Estrela;
• To promote contact between researchers and student community college and secondary school as well as teachers and other stakeholders, domestic and foreign;
• Promoting contact between the scientific community and civil society;
• Promote the collection of information to enrich the platform GeObserver as a form of dissemination and exchange of data between the scientific community and civil.

About project GeOberver

The GeObserver is a geographic information system (GIS) of the Serra da Estrela created and designed by the Cultural Association Friends of the Serra da Estrela (ASE) in collaboration with the School of Technology of Setubal (Polytechnic Institute of Setubal) whose main purpose is gather geo referenced information of various types (meteorology, hydrology, fauna, flora, relief, etc.). Treat it and make it available to anyone wishing to study or investigation, that this is the largest natural promontory of the mainland Portuguese.

The amount used will be able to acquire computer equipment, photography and mapping support for the geo referencing of the participants in the 1st Camp Natural History of Serra da Estrela.

The design capabilities GeObserver have had their recognition by nominating the finalists for the Green Project Awards 2013 and EBAE 2013.

About the author

The ASE is a civic association, nonprofit, founded and headquartered in Butters since January 22, 1982.

It is the second oldest NGO in the country with over 1000 members, and regional compliance with the criteria set by the Portuguese Environment Agency.

To defend the Serra da Estrela all kinds of attacks and interests that do not take into account the preservation of their natural values and cultural heritage , the sustainability of its resources to ensure future generations the fullness of its biodiversity .

To seek to make known the Serra da Estrela , sensitizing perspective of their strengths and weaknesses , making room for all citizens to present their ideas , supporting the ASE on your actions or contradicting them if the interests of the hills are his goals .

The Serra da Estrela is a massive, whose wealth did not fail to awaken appetites and greed of many interests have done everything to squander their natural values , its biodiversity , and the real damage to the landscape and for which they have contact with state protection .

The Serra da Estrela remains fragile and at the mercy of real attacks as the day of creation of the ASE . Hence friends are the best guarantee for its defense and the more we increased protection and more strength we to prevent the attacks continue.
