We will ensure that Tocá Rufar continues to be a cultural reference in Portugal. Your contribution is essential to keep this project alive and preserve this beautiful history. Embrace this mission. Together for Tocá Rufar

Campaign Objectives

The "United by Tocá Rufar" campaign aims to raise funds to maintain the free activities provided by the Tocá Rufar Association that benefit more than 1000 children from needy communities until the end of the year, thus promoting access to quality musical and artistic training. We want to continue to ensure that all beneficiary children have access to educational and cultural opportunities, regardless of their socioeconomic background.

ADAT - Associação dos Amigos do Tocá Rufar prepared several applications and support - national and community, local, regional and national in order to ensure the continuity of the project from next year onwards. The current situation results from the delay in the construction of the new headquarters - lasting two years - which would allow sustainability for two years at this point.

The municipality did not meet the completion date - April 2022 - and our association was forced to revoke the contract as it no longer had the means to cover the exceptional costs of the work, thus losing all investment and assets already built.

Therefore, given the impact, importance and lasting legacy of Tocá Rufar on the social, musical and cultural scene in Portugal, it is essential that we take measures to ensure the continuity of the association, whether through financial support, institutional partnerships or other forms of support in order to preserve this valuable institution and avoid its closure.

  1. Preservation of cultural legacy : Tocá Rufar plays a significant role in preserving traditional Portuguese percussive music and promoting cultural diversity. Closing the association would mean interrupting this essential work of cultural preservation.
  2. Social and educational impact : The association demonstrated the social, educational and therapeutic benefits of percussion practice, positively impacting several communities in Portugal. The closure of Tocá Rufar would represent the loss of a valuable educational and social resource.
  3. Inspiration for other initiatives : Tocá Rufar served and continues to serve as a model and inspiration for dozens of percussion groups across the country and thousands of percussion players. Its closure will have a negative impact on the entire network of groups and musicians influenced by the association.
  4. Institutional and cultural responsibility : Preserving a country's social and cultural heritage is a shared responsibility between institutions, organizations and society in general. The closure of Tocá Rufar would represent a significant loss for Portugal's sociocultural scenario.

It is in the hands of Portugal and the Portuguese. Help preserve this beautiful history.

Thank you for your contribution. Together for Tocá Rufar

Who We Are and What We Do

Tocá Rufar is a model project of artistic and cultural training for the affirmation and promotion of traditional Portuguese percussion and the bass drum instrument that distinguishes itself by placing Portuguese culture, knowledge and art in a privileged position as a source of value, development and contemporary; and for making them accessible to all individuals.

Tocá Rufar is a national reference and has promoted the formation of dozens of groups across the country, inspired by its example, for several reasons:

  1. Positive impact on the community: demonstrating the social, cultural and educational benefits of percussion practice, inspiring the formation of new groups in communities across the country.
  2. Valuing traditional culture : helping to preserve and promote traditional Portuguese percussive music, awakening the interest of other people and communities in rescuing and valuing their own musical traditions.
  3. Promoting inclusion and diversity: promoting the participation of people of different backgrounds, ages and experiences, inspiring other communities to promote inclusion and diversity through music.
  4. Development of educational programs : inspiring schools and organizations to implement similar programs across the country.
  5. Visibility and recognition : They inspired other musicians and enthusiasts to follow their example and form their own groups, hoping to achieve the same recognition.
  6. Promoting social integration and cultural diversity : Participation in cultural and musical activities from childhood can influence how children perceive cultural diversity, promoting tolerance, respect and mutual understanding. This can last into adulthood, influencing their attitudes and world views.

The budget reflects only 70% of the essential costs for maintaining activities and being able to continue serving Portugal and the Portuguese free of charge until the end of 2024, celebrating 28 years of activity:

a) Transport the children’s food;

b) Hiring a security guard;

c) Hiring a music teacher;

d) An activity coordinator;

e) Storage and repair of instruments

I. Introduction

- Tocá Rufar has been providing free activities to the most disadvantaged communities for 28 years.

- From transport that collects beneficiaries close to their place of residence, to food during activities, to other types of support for family members, Tocá Rufar ensures that each child or young person has access to music, culture and the arts , essential practices for your growth.

II. Context

- After 2 years of waiting for the construction of a new headquarters to be completed, our association was forced to revoke the contract with the municipality due to the difficulties that this delay caused and which generated the current situation.

- The impact of the 70% of the amount needed to maintain activities until the end of the year will be the salvation of this project in the short term.

- Several applications are in the tender phase which, we are certain, will contribute to the sustainability of this project from 2025 onwards, but getting there is at risk of not happening for the reasons presented.

III. Transport and Food

- Transport and food are essential to provide the means for children and young people to attend and consolidate their training at Tocá Rufar, without depending on the financial capacity of family members, who are often depleted of resources.

IV. Hiring a Security Guard

- On trips and during activities, the current team of Tocá Rufar volunteers cannot guarantee adequate and necessary availability to guarantee safety, observation of rules of conduct and ensure harmonious interpersonal relationships.

- The current trainer, rehearser and conductor, currently 68 years old, urgently needs an assistant so that he can still contribute to his musical and life experience. An assistant music teacher is, therefore, essential to keep beneficiaries active and dedicated to the study and technical improvement of the instruments and repertoire of the Tocá Rufar orchestra.

SAW. Activities Coordinator

- The financial difficulties that the failure of the construction generated did not allow us to keep the only full-time employee, managing all activities, records and weekly reports, activities in schools, ongoing social projects and all the secretariat inherent to a structure such as that of Tocá Rufar.

VII. Instrument Storage and Repair

Two years of waiting for the construction of the new headquarters forced our association to incur high storage and maintenance costs for dozens of instruments. The month of April will be the last for which we still have the rent amount available. From May 1st, we run the risk of not having a place to store them.

VIII. Conclusion

- I appeal to you to support the organization in achieving its objectives and celebrating 28 years of free service to Portugal and the Portuguese people until the end of 2024.
