Transportes Públicos.pt is a free online route planner for public transportation in Portugal, gathering all the available means - rail, road and water, including: boats, trains, subways, trams, urban and long distance buses, funiculars and elevators. Walking and biking routes can also be planned, and also bike + public transport routes.

We believe that most of the urban problems in Portugal could be solved with the massive use of public and soft transportation. Social, environmental and economical problems.

Transportes Públicos.pt, a community project, socially engaged and open to all, was our way to try to improve the current situation.

Transportes Públicos.pt arose from TECO Planer, a social entrepreneurship project that was one of the ten finalist of FAZ - Portuguese Originated Ideas, a competition promoted by Gulbenkian and Talento Foundations. TECO Planner was also the winner of the VIII Idea Competition sponsored by NET, S.A., based in Porto.

We work primarily with open source software, namely Open Street Map and Open Street Planner. Like Wikipedia, everyone can add information to these services, improving them with their knowledge. Taking Open Street Map as an example, if the cartographical information is improved by the users, the route planning is enhanced. More street names, speed limits, turn restrictions, etc., allow better planning for trains, subways or bicycles routes.

Right now route planning is possible in Porto’s Metropolitan Area in a limited number of lines, but on weekly basis new information is added. Around Porto, bicycle and walking routing is already available.

Rewards

Transportes Públicos.pt wishes to remain a free access service. Choosing rewards for the Crowdfunding was therefore a difficult task.

The honor board will be present on our own Crowdfunding site, to be created in www.transportespublicos.pt. The “travel search without ads” allows selected users to use our service without the distraction of publicity.

About this Crowdfunding

Our service is free and working (anyone can test it at www.transportespublicos.pt), but has maintenance costs, namely server costs. The goal of this Crowdfunding is to support the server costs for six months, allowing Transportes Públicos.pt to grow without limitations.

Budget and due dates
