This book aims to make a contribution, informing and sensitizing people to a more conscious consumption. In addition to the linguistic content, the book will present a set of images, graphics and other graphic information on the subject.

We live the urgency of facing various dilemmas in situations related to the environment and the economy. To overcome problems and ensure the survival of the planet, it is necessary to look for sustainable means of producing, marketing, consuming and discarding products, reducing environmental and social impacts.

The Textile and Clothing Industry has been among the most polluting activities since the 20th century, through the use of chemical substances in its production processes, causing contamination of water and air, among other negative impacts. We must implement a social and productive model that does not detract from the opportunities for survival and the well-being of future generations, since the planet lives a process of self-destruction still ignored or underestimated as to its real meaning.

The sustainable development of Fashion involves processes of creation, recovery or recycling of products that are capable of contributing to a more conscious consumption. Thus, design for sustainability involves the design of products, services and systems with low environmental impact and high social quality, in order to avoid ephemerality in the generation of new products, which altered the logic of the Fashion system itself by decreasing production times and shorten their life cycle.

As long as we live in a cultural context whose central and obsessive preoccupation with the new, the unprecedented, or the unusual, instead of seeking the common good and meeting the real needs of people, both for present and future generations, we will not be able to positively impact the planet nor leave a legacy of values of which we can be proud and remembered in a future that is now.

In addition to the normal text, the book will present highlights of this text, sustainable fashion photographs, graphics, such as the production per capita of garbage in several countries, among other visual information. The objective is to provide a complementary reading to the text itself.

Real examples of Brazilian and Portuguese businesses and initiatives will also be presented in a more ethical and responsible fashion. In that sequence, a database with all the companies that could be detected on the radar of our research will be released.
