"The Light Space," teaches survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking to self-express themselves and externalize what goes into their souls through photography. Yet, they need help to help.

A large number of women in India lose themselves in a destiny that is not the promised reality. These people end up being trafficked for housework, prostitution and organ trafficking. It is necessary to fight this enormous scourge at the origin, but without forgetting the people who have already been through it.

Since 2014 there is hope for these victims. In the city of Calcutta, there is a school of photography, "The Light Space", aimed at survivors or vulnerable to this hideous reality. The goal, more than teaching photography, is to enable these survivors to self-express themselves and externalize what is in their soul. The program has a training so that they can start an activity and receive a salary, giving meaning to their life that another time had been withdrawn. For this to be possible, this school has the support of national and international photographers, who in a totally supportive way give training to these victims. It also counts with the solidarity of people, whether monetary, or in materials such as cameras, tripods, computers, tables, chairs, etc ... Know this project by visiting the website at http://www.thelightspace.org/. With this determination, the school has to raise every year a value of $12,000, to face annual expenses such as rent, electricity, water, consumables, travel, health ...

This project was presented to me by one of the co-founders, Brooke Shaden, and becoming sensitive to this project and the stories, I decided to help by proposing to organize a photography exhibition, which took place at the Portuguese Photography Center. To that end, I invited artists to give away their works, whose sales would revert, not only to the school, but also to APAV. At the time I organized this exhibition, I thought it made sense to also support APAV, given its great role in Portuguese society. In that spirit and with the consent of the artists, I decided to donate a percentage to APAV.

From this exhibition remain 12 photos and as I do not give up easily, I decided to create a draw of the photos and raise new funds for these two institutions that needsour help.

Depending on the value of the donation, you are more likely to win one of the 7 photos to be drawn. The draw, which is valid for Europe, will consist of two bags, one with the 7 photos and the other with the names of the supporters. The photographs will be properly packed and protected. These will be sent with registration and from the moment I deliver them to the carrier, I will not be responsible for any damages caused by this. Thank you for your attention.

About the author

My name is Paulo Carvalho and I was born, live and work in Aveiro. Although I graduated in engineering from the University of Aveiro in the area of geosciences, I always had a great connection to art. In the world of the arts it is in photography that my passion resides and I maintain until the present day. I went through several phases of photography such as landscape, wildlife, food photography, portraiture ... However, today, I consider myself a conceptual photography artist. Create images and in each one of the photos see the possibility of transmitting a message, a fable or a feeling, is something that enchants me and transports me to another world. Ideas pop out of my mind like popcorn in the pan, and creativity, commitment and motivation always accompany me in everything I do. In parallel, I also work at the Living Science Center of Aveiro as a science promoter. To get to know me better, I invite you to visit my webpage.

Sinto-me honrado por ser o primeiro a apoiar esta nova campanha de apoio a uma organização que já apoiei no passado, comprando uma obra na exposição anterior.
