MÃO SÉNIOR - PROJECT COMBAT TO SOCIAL ISOLATION IN THE ELDERLY

MÃO SÉNIOR is a project that aims to support the elderly in their daily activities (domestic activities, personal company, night care, etc.) while supporting the informal caregivers / family members of these elderly people.

Over the last few years, there has been an increase in social problems, mainly due to the increase in the economic problems of the country in which we live. These problems have generated several changes, mainly at the level of family structures. One of the problems that has had the most growth and that has been more notorious as the days go by is the demographic aging.

Associated with changes in dynamics family and aging, the problem of social / geographical isolation is born. Despite the many resources available to address this problem, it is well known that there are still many older people who refuse to leave their homes, leaving the daily routines they are accustomed to performing every day.

As an alternative to the common services that already exist, I thought of a project to support this type of elderly that we may consider to be more resistant to any type of intervention, but that this should not be an impediment so that they can be equally supported in the most diverse daily activities. The main objective is based on support provided without the person having to "leave their home" and not leave completely "their daily routines.”

The project consists of supporting several elderly people regularly or sporadically for 24 hours a week, according to the real need of each elderly or family. That is, we intend to provide a kind of home service but without it being obligatory the daily frequency of it. Support may be based on:

• accompanying the elderly to the health center, pharmacy, sightseeing, watching television, visiting friends / family, shopping, among the most diverse activities;
• provide daily / sporadic support in household chores (cooking, tidying up, dressing, etc.);
• provide personal care services to more dependent older people in order to support informal caregivers and enable them to have a life more free from the responsibility of having to care for the elderly 24 hours a day. In this support, in addition to personal care, it is possible to have a company service, both night and day, for the times when the family has other commitments.

It is essential to have a humanized, personalized and that takes into account the real and specific needs of each situation, always having as an ideal that the elderly are the center of all activity and that the family and social environment from which each comes is a complementary part of their experiences, and should continue to be particularly considered in supporting the elderly, according to their wishes and interests.
