The Porto Cruz Development, nurtured by the Oeiras Municipality and sponsored by the SIL Group, is poised to destroy the peacefulness of the Jamor forever and increase flood risk in Cruz Quebrada, in addition to entailing the destruction of the Cruz Quebrada and Caxias beaches. All this is against the law and we cannot allow it to happen. Help us to stand up for the common good. Let’s do it! Let´s Save the Jamor!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! We have already reached our minumum target for crowdfunding (3,000€), which has made it possible for our lawyer to start working. However, this sum is far from being enough for what we will need to fund the lawsuits to defend the Jamor Valley and the Oeiras riverfront. Accordingly, please do not stop helping us through this crowdfunding, which is a key part of our fund-raising activities! All the sums received and spent are accounted for in our site, with full transparency.

The Jamor Valley is a pleasant green space adjacent to the River Tagus, a place where people enjoy being. Unfortunately, it is threatened by the Porto Cruz Development, as well as the related works the Oeiras Municipality plans to build (with our money) to facilitate this private undertaking.

The Porto Cruz Development foresees the construction of a gigantic real estate development in the Jamor Valley, right on the River Tagus, featuring 8 buildings, including 5 skyscrapers that reach 20 floors, a marina, shopping centres, roads, viaducts and mammoth car parks. All this built atop a concrete bunker whose height reaches 12 metres.

If this development materialises, we will no longer see the river and we will hardly be able to reach it. All these immense concrete blocks will make it more difficult for water to flow in the event of flood, and flood risk in the low areas of Cruz Quebrada and Dafundo will dramatically increase.

Traffic will be chaotic, noise levels louder and continuous and the Jamor Valley, the largest green space in the county of Oeiras, will be annihilated. We will lose the Cruz Quebrada and Caxias beaches, which will disappear under the rocks and concrete of yet another environmental crime disguised as a “Seaside Promenade”, but which is actually no more than a means to aid and abet the Porto Cruz Development.

This is against the law. We cannot let it happen.

The law is in our favour. We have plenty of arguments to win this case in court. Help us to stand up for the common good!

By taking legal action, AVSJ intends to stop the Porto Cruz Development, as well as the related facilitating public works.

We must take legal action ourselves, as citizens, given the urgency of this case, as well as the deafening silence of the vast majority of the authorities to which we have denounced this state of affairs and which have done nothing or close to nothing! If we do not stand up for the common good, no one else will!

The goal is achievable: to collect €6,000 to finance court and lawyers’ fees to fight this case in court and stop this illegal development, in the name of quality of life and the environment.

Any sum you may help us with will count and make a difference. Thank you for helping us!

Let’s do it! Let’s Save the Jamor!

About the author

Associação Vamos Salvar o Jamor (AVSJ) was formed by various citizens who united to fight against the construction of the Porto Cruz Development, defending the interests of the local population and the people who enjoy the Jamor Valley every day.  We refuse for the quiet of the Jamor valley and the sports compound to be wiped out by real estate developments that ensure neither the future sustainability of the largest green space in the county of Oeiras nor its riverfront.

AVSJ is a private not-for-profit environmental association that already has more than 130 members from very diverse backgrounds.

All the other work to produce this campaign was ensured by members and friends of the Associação Vamos Salvar o Jamor.

Budget and due dates

The money we are asking you for is intended to help us finance the court actions to stop the destruction of the Jamor Valley and the Oeiras riverfront. We want to take the Oeiras Municipality and all those responsible for these projects to court and prevent them from ruining the riverfront between Caxias and Cruz Quebrada and the Jamor Valley. We urgently need an estimated sum of 6,000€ to pay for court and legal costs, including retaining a specialist lawyer in environmental and planning matters. In addition to the various fund-raising activities already undertaken and to be undertaken, our minimum goal for crowdfunding is 3,000€ so that we can start. As soon as our crowdfunding goal is reached, our lawyer will start work!
