BE ALL YOU is a multidisciplinary and multicultural artistic work inspired by traditional portuguese music and in the poetry of Fernando Pessoa, Maria Almira Medina and Zeca Afonso of the new band of portuguese popular music ANDRÉ FAUSTO & OS COMPANHEIROS DE AVENTURA.
BE ALL YOU is a multicultural artistic work born of poetry, encompassing theater and dance and manifests itself above all as an international musical ensemble (Portugal, England, Argentina, Israel and Nepal) of fusion music of traditional inspiration.
Poetry comes from our collective memory in the form of traditional Portuguese songs, to which is added the poetry of Fernando Pessoa, Maria Alimira Medina and Zeca Afonso. Together with 2 original songs by André Fausto they form the body of the themes of BE ALL YOU. This campaign serves to gather the necessary conditions to record an album and to start with the broader project effectively and to share it nationally and internationally.
BE ALL YOU has its origin in Galamares, Sintra (parish of São Martinho) in the house Mira Sol, born of an artistic residence organized by André Fausto and Álvaro Medeiros - who came together after 22 years of musical sharing and great friendship. The traveller Gary Lloyd settled in the community garden Fruitful Gaia - with the support of Raízes na Terra Cultural Association - where he set up a tent and began working with us on composition, based on traditional Portuguese themes.
Jozé Sabugo, the theater director, poet, accountant and researcher of Portuguese traditional heritage, joined the project, brought the poetry of the great artist Maria Almira Medina and created the connection to the association Casa das Cenas, which generously gave a space for the project in the center of historic Sintra. Sunil Pariyar joined in the midst of the conception (with André Fausto) of the transdisciplinary and multicultural project "Building Peace Bridges"and has not resisted sharing his knowledge of classical Eastern music and in particular the traditional music of Nepal contained in his 7 flutes.
Then Gary asked a tourist what he had in the bag and Guy Ohayon showed him his lute and so he went to Mira Sol where he recorded with us the experimental versions of AMORA (youtube id) and FUI TE VER PELOS CAMPOS (youtube id ) for the promotional videos for this campaign. Before returning to Israel, Guy also lived on a farm in Sintra - Quinta dos 7 Nomes (Farm of the 7 Names) - a space of cooperativism, permaculture and transition where we had the honor to make our concert to launch this crowdfunding campaign for the 9th anniversary of the cooperative in the day of celebration of our “protector” Saint Martin. An unforgettable moment of poetry and music in the middle of nature. (Youtube id)
But it was with Milagros Galli - who brought the magic of the African harp that she built with her hands - that we discovered the magical and the untouched place where this campaign would begin and end - the Lagoa Azul (Blue Lagoon) at the begining of Sintra Hill. There we found inspiration from Nature to create the music for the album BE ALL YOU.
About the author
Originally from Sintra, ANDRE FAUSTO & THE ADVENTURE COMPANIONS is our set of traditional music and international fusion and a multicultural community art project.
The adventure companions were arriving slowly and swiftly. First the great friend Álvaro brought the guitars of the Azores and the Atlantic, then a Northern European of Irish roots called Gary brought the sound of the Pacific inside a ukulele. From the sky appeared Guy with his lute of Israel. Jozé arrived with the theater and the adufe inside a suitcase. Milagros came from the mountains of Argentina and North America to Portugal and brought us the sound of the n'goni of Mother Africa. And from Nepal came at last the sound of the birds on the flute of the great Sunil. On the beautiful and unique day that we gather, all formed the body and soul of BE ALL YOU.
The play "Madrugadeira", staged by Jozé Sabugo, established the connection of the project to the Cultural Association Casa das Cenas. Editora Casa das Cenas was born from the initiative of Maria Almira Medina, Jozé Sabugo and Jorge Cardoso to collect, research and publish the poetry of the county of Sintra. "More poets, more group work, more possibilities to make themselves heard the voice of each one of these creators ... Let the voice of the poets without a book be heard for the meeting of our roots after the harvest of poetry-life."
Editora Casa das Cenas published poetry, prose, theater, short stories and cd's, including Helena da Paixão's "Moura-Lena" (2010) and Luisa Timoteo's book "Por Malacca and East Timor" (2014) Protagonists of Portuguese Cooperation in East Timor. The Editora Casa das Cenas since 2007 has been humbly perfecting himself in short runs in a philosophy of promoting authors with ties to Sintra and promoting art inspired by Portuguese traditional roots, as a contribution to a more humanized world.
It is with great enthusiasm that Editora Casa das Cenas supports this multicultural project and launches into a new publishing adventure through the PPL crowdfunding platform, cherishing the entire creative and editing process of BE ALL YOU.
We ask all friends, artists and patrons to listen to our music (recorded spontaneously in the 1st meeting of these 7 musicians) in the videos, to join us in the concerts and to support this campaign that provides the minimum necessary to raise this project totally self-produced by the artists involved. Things like the passage of the Guy for him to come from Israel to record or for Cláudia Ferreira to make patchwork quilts (for the special edition of the album) through handicraft workshops with cultural associations in the Sintra area. Or for Gonçalo Rocha to continue to take pictures and Ana make the wonderful drawings of the design of our entire communication. And if it comes more than we will share it sisterly by all.
We count on your support to help a team of 7 musicians and 4 technicians (photographer, sound technician, visual artist and artisan) - all emerging artists with great love for their art and who synchronistically found themselves in this creation that now belongs all to everyone.
