This documentary is about a portuguese legend called Tardo, a figure that lives in the popular imagination. With this work we try to immortalize a small part of our intangible heritage.
"O Tardo" is almost completed. This crowdfunding is only intended to collect the basic funds for registration and travel expenses in various film festivals (including PostDoc; BragaCine; Avanca Film Festival, FestIn, IndieLisboa) and subsequent registration and DVD authoring for distribution.
This project was born in 2006 from Dr. Pedro Paiva Dias' idea. His goal was to immortalize the legend of the Tardo, who lives mainly in the oral tradition, and to understand its importance in last centurie's rural societies from northernt Portugal. However, the research we carried out allowed us to discover something more: that there are links between this legend in that area and other legends in places like Minho, Tras-os-Montes, Galicia and Asturias. All of them have common traits and curious differences, but they also may be associated with the same origins. So it was imperative to listen to some of the most prestigious experts in ethnography and popular northern tradition of our country, as well as some of the elder members of some rural villages who knew these stories. We spoke with Prof. Antonio Amaro Neves, former president of the Martins Sarmento Society, and Prof. Alexandre Parafita, who has an extensive written work on this matter, as well as plenty other people.
All this was done with 0 funding. We traveled the north of the country in our own time, with our own material and money. We spent hours researching, filming, interviewing and editing. And here we are at the bureaucratic and decisive phase that we can no longer cope with alone and with zero money. For this we need your help. It is of great importance that we bring this project to public in the best way possible.
