New Stage: Eurogym 2016

This document intends to provide a description of the intended participation of the grouping of schools of Mangualde on the EUROGYM project.

Tumbling, Round Off, “Flick Flacks” and so one are the bread and butter of the 30 gymnasts which have been selected to participate on the project, to whom each move, each technic, each choreography makes part of their life’s and dreams.

This youngsters, which form part of the “choreography class” of the grouping of schools of Mangualde,  dream to be able to be part on the thrilling experience of participating in the gymnastic festival  EUROGYM as part of the Portuguese committee and representing Mangualde. This European event is organized by the European Union of Gymnastics (EUG) in collaboration with the National Federations of each different member State. The 2016 festival will celebrate the 10^th edition of EUROGYN and will be held on the city of České Budějovice  in the Czech Republic between the 18^th and the 24^th of July 2016.

Due to the sever economic difficulties of the inhabitants of the city of  Mangualde, which were caught by default on the recessive spiral that affects Portugal since 2010, and due to the lack of financial support from other institutions ( governmental and non-governmental ), this dream will only be possible with the support of the families, friends, relatives and you, with a kind and symbolic donation, will help to support the efforts these 30 young boys and girls have developed over the years and allow them to accomplish their dream.

About the author

Paula Cunha: holding a degree in Physical Education and teaching in an primary school of the groping of schools of Mangualde, is the responsible for the past 22 years for the gymnastic group.

The gymnastic group project has started with only 20 students and has grown steadily over the years. In 2012 and as a response to the increase in the attendees numbers and skills, the group have been divided into 4 different work groups: the choreography class and 3 initiation classes with participants varying from the primary school to the university level, achieving the impressive 100^th gymnast / year in the last years.

In 2009, the grouping of schools of Mangualde has participated in the federate event of “Gymnastic for all”. Due to the requisites of participation, a formal club has been created to enable the participation of the athletes. In the next years,  as federate, the club has been represented at the Portuguese Federation for Gymnastic via the participation of the “choreography class” in four editions of the event Gym for Life, the same number on the Portugal Gym and twice in the event EUROGYM - the first one participating in the opening ceremony of the Coimbra edition and, a second time, in Sweden.

In the last 12 years the group has been fortunate to have really talented gymnasts which dedicated their free time to develop their competences and skills, winning several awards, at local and regional level on different categories ( group, acrobatic and artistic gymnastic ). The most relevant ones are shown below:

2014 / 2015:

Gym for Life : Silver endorsement

Artistic Gymnastic : 1^st and 2^nd places in both men’s and woman’s categories at local level and a 2^nd place in the men’s categories regional level

Acrobatic Gymnastic : 2^nd place on the woman’s trio and mixed doubles categories at local level and 1^st place at local and regional level for the men’s doubles categories.

Group Gymnastic : 2^nd place at local level

2013 / 2014:

Gym for Life : Silver endorsement

Artistic Gymnastic : 1^st and 2^nd places in both men’s and woman’s categories at local level

Acrobatic Gymnastic : 1^st place on mixed doubles category at local level, 2^nd place at local level for the men’s doubles, woman’s doubles and trio categories.

Group Gymnastic : 2^nd place at local level

2012 / 2013 :

Gym for Life : bronze endorsement

Artistic Gymnastic : 1^st and 2^nd places for men’s category at local level and 2^nd place for woman’s category at local level.

Acrobatic Gymnastic : 1^nd place on woman’s double category and 3^rd place at men’s double and woman’s trio categories.

Group Gymnastic : 2^nd place at local level

2011 / 2012 :

Gym for Life : silver endorsement

Artistic Gymnastic : 1^st and 2^nd place men’s and 2^nd place at woman’s category at local level.

Acrobatic Gymnastic : 1^st place at woman’s, men’s and mixed doubles and woman’s trio at local level.

Group Gymnastic : 1^nd place at local level

Budget and due dates

The current level of financial support required is 1000 euros, which will be used to finance the transport costs and necessary insurances of the group to the Czech Republic.
The deadline for the collection of donations is April 2016, which will allow all necessary due diligences to be performed and transport reserved for the participation on the EUROGYM.
