To be shoot in the beginning of 2013, “Música em Pó” (Music on Dust) is a documentary about ten vinyl record collectors, focusing on their relationship with their collection.

Entirely directed and produced by me, this movie will portrait music by its format, by the reflections of the record covers, and by the journeys the records did until their ultimate owner.

Starring melomaniacs such as: Rui Miguel Abreu (BLITZ); João Carlos Callixto (RTP); Beatbombers (scratch world champions), among other collectors who will be revealed by the shooting days, I will document the some of the obsessions of these music lovers and the dedication to their own collections.

“Música em Pó” will give the viewer a stronger empathy with the vinyl format, while I give a proper value to all of Portuguese musical culture.

I plan on shooting this movie in the first semester of 2013, leaving the second one to editing and post-production, which will be made by me as well.

This movie’s budget is about 900 euros, being 600 for audiovisual equipment and 300 for the shooting production of the ten collectors. Despite the success of my last documentary, I’ve always been forced to rent the equipment, and that’s why, if I reach this goal, I will also get an independence for future projects.

About the author

With a degree on Sound and Image from ESAD of Caldas da Rainha, I’ve debuted in the documentary paths with “Meio Metro de Pedra” (www.meiometrodepedra.com) about the portuguese rock’n’roll history since the late 50s to nowadays. An independent research work, which, in its eight months of screenings over Portugal, broke a barrier in the country’s underground cinema.

Budget and due dates

Com um plano de arranque de rodagem para o Janeiro de 2013, tenciono rodar este documentário no primeiro trimestre do ano deixando o segundo trimestre para a edição e pós-produção final, também feita por mim. O orçamento previsto para este documentário é de 900 euros, sendo 600eur para a compra de material (câmera Canon 550 com lente & microfone) e 300eur para as despesas de deslocação e produção durante as filmagens dos doze colecionadores. Apesar do sucesso do meu documentário anterior, vi-me sempre forçado a alugar material. Considero portanto que, se atingir este valor, conseguirei alcançar todos os meus objectivos para este novo projecto, ganhando também independência para iniciativas futuras. Tanto eu realizador, como os entrevistados e o próprio criador da banda sonora, trabalharemos neste projecto pro-bono, por afeição ao formato vinyl. Após aprovação desta campanha, irei criar uma página na internet e nas redes sociais para, ao longo do processo de filmagem, oferecer uma clara transparência quanto aos meus objectivos com este filme e ir desvendando, um a um, os colecionadores eleitos, apimentando assim o gosto do público. Quanto ao produto final, a sair antes do Verão, já tenho em analise uma proposta para uma possível edição em DVD.
