"African Dance and Interculturalism in Portugal"(Danças africanas e Interculturalidade em Portugal) is the first book of Teresa Fabião, arising from the Master's thesis in dance developed at the Federal University of Bahia (Salvador). Being an unpublished study on the national scene.

"African dances and Interculturality in Portugal" (Danças africanas e Interculturalidade em Portugal) is my first book, driven from the Master in Dance in the University of Bahia, Brazil, and an original study in the national context.

This study addresses the way in which African dances problematise the cultural relations between Portugal and certain African countries. Thus, a field research was undertaken within two different case units whose artistic and pedagogical practices with African dances were analysed: Eva Azevedo and the group Semente, in Porto, and the group Kilandukilu, in Lisbon. From the understanding of interculturality as a dialogical relationship, as well as from querying on the concepts of body and culture, the study discusses the representations and meanings that these practices assemble about Africa and African dances, associating them with colonialism and post-colonialism issues and questioning the extent up to which they create spaces of intercultural dialogue. The data obtained from class observation, performances and rehearsals revealed that the concept of interculturality still prevails mostly at the level of the official discourse, whereas the teachers and artistic groups suggest a stereotyped approach that bespeaks the “fusion”, juxtaposition and harmonious relationship standpoint.
