Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) does not choose age, careers or life styles. All of us can give our contribution to educate others on what is ALS. Don't be indifferent, give a CLICK for ALS.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor neurons of the cerebral cortex, brainstem and spinal cord. Death usually occurs within 3 to 5 years, since the single approved therapy only prolongs survival by approximately 3 months.
Since it is not a wildly known disease, and given the fact that Prof. Dora Brites (Investigator Coordinator of Faculty of Pharmacy of ULisboa) is conducting cientifical investigation work, and has the goal of getting Science and Society closer to ALS, we decided to help her by developing a group of activities thought to raise the awareness of our Society about the problems linked to this disease.
These activities will be a Photography Contest, four debates related to the themes of the Contest and our 2nd Symposium about ALS.
Our main objective with this crowdfunding is to finance the gallery that we will be setting up after the Contest. The exceeding funds will be used to support the investigation of this disease.
Our Contest is composed of an international jury which will evaluate all the photographies that we receive. Our motto is "Science and Society, From Micro to Macro" and it will be divided in four different themes: Environment and Society; Design and Arquitecture; Culture and Technology; Health and Science. Your photographies must be about one of these themes. Any question that you may have, our website should help you.
We will then set up a gallery with 40 photographies (10 for each theme) and a virtual museum, where anyone can visit the best photos of the contest online. In this gallery you will find the best photographies exposed, accompanied with a small description and also information about ALS.
Finally, for our great finale, our set of activities will end with the 2nd Symposium Science and Society ALS 2017.
After April, we will then set up the gallery in schools and institutions in order to sensibilize them about the disease, what can be done and the future of investigation of ALS.
