CECAI: Don't leave us without a roof

5 ha, traditional olive grove, land calling for regeneration, reforestation, biodiversity. CECAI rolls up its sleeves for work! But this work has to be collective and shared. But for us to be MORE we need to give a ROOF to our space.

5 hectares - traditional olive grove and land calling regeneration, reforestation, biodiversity. CECAI Center for Integrative Cultural and Artistic Experiences is the new Project that inhabits this land and is rolling up its sleeves for work! The work asks for the collective, it asks for sharing, it asks for other hands, more hands . But to be MORE we need to give a ROOF to our space.

And what do we need? Reinforcing walls of an old building that serves as a warehouse and plastering one of the exterior walls so that we can install an advanced shed that will cover a kitchen bench equipped with a sink, gas stove* and wood stove and even a *Biodigestor for transformation of organic waste into gas for cooking, as well as some rainwater collection tanks. For this construction it will also be necessary to remove the rubble that is obstructing the space.

And what do we need more? Showers to be incorporated into the already existing dry composting toilets - two structures in treated wood; water heating system with renewable energy; creation of a biological grey water treatment system with a sub-irrigation garden and a rainwater collection tank.

About the author

CECAI – Center for Integrative Cultural and Artistic Experiences , entity - Monte da AmOrada Association, district of Évora, Municipality of Mora, Parish of Brotas, Alentejo (south of Portugal).

Mission - to cultivate spaces and practices of regeneration – cultural, social, economic and ecological.

How? Through Interdisciplinary Residency programs where community members, artists, ecologists, philosophers, artisans, farmers, scientists converge - an endless list because we believe in reconnecting these and other dimensions.
Each Residence is part of the cycles of this land; complete cycles that reconnect us with true time, where we want the local and cross-border community to feel empowered to co-create participatory solutions.

We emphasize the presence of artistic languages as tools of great importance, capable of facilitating the creation of new paradigms and fertile futures. These open space for concrete actions such as land regeneration, the recovery of local economies and localized agri-food systems through the principles of agroecology.

This project wishes to be able to contribute to the local community; through programming that brings other cultural opportunities to the region; a space that aims to sow ecological literacy and the desire to take care of the earth in the community; welcoming local young people in their incubation of dreams, ideas and projects, facilitating their manifestation; creation of jobs.

Who we are?

Clara Santiago - She began her journey in artistic expression. The creative impulse remains latent, now it seeks to focus on a deeper view of the world, human and more than human. In the search for knowledge in the areas of regeneration and agroecology and in the search for answers and solutions, she has came to recognize that the answer may be to abandon solutions and listen to what emerges from our encounters.

Isabel Barbosa da Costa - Training in Early Childhood Education and Dramatic Expression, has privileged, in essence, non-linear paths where the construction of meanings can disentangle what is necessary. Now she embraces the call of the earth and, in its name, wish to contribute to the Regeneration of Relationship and Consciousness.

Margarida Pinto Coelho - Academic training in Dance; professional/artistic experience focused on the Art/Education/Community relationship. Curiosity, Diversity and Poetics are concepts that she defends as 'Form(ul)a of life'. At this time of paradigm shift(s), chooses to live in a place where it is possible to care, share and nurture hope.

Budget and due dates

All works will be carried out with local companies and services

Interventions in old construction: Chopping and plastering; supporting structures; debris removal; labor - €1500

Outdoor kitchen: Wooden shed structure; bench + equipment; water collection tank - €2300

Shower area: wooden structures; grey water treatment system; water heating system + water collection tank pipes - 2200

labor: €800

PPL platform commissions: €600

If the amount raised is higher than that proposed by the campaign, the excess amount will be used for further consultancy/advisory services in the areas of ecological regeneration, in particular the creation of a reforestation and water retention plan on the land.
